Mae’s Sweet Tooth

Hey there guys and gals! Today is my first time writing weekly special feature article so try to stick with me! I’d love to tell you a little about sweets and give a recipe to go with my articles. So to start with, today I’d like to tell you about mochi! There’s quite a few different ways to make mochi, and many different types and flavors as well. So I’ll tell you about the chocolate mochi I’ve made before. It takes a while, but the results are totally worth the wait! Chocolate mochi may look like a brownie, but its texture and taste is offbeat when compared to a brownie. A brownie is more like a melting, sticky texture and is usually very, very sweet, but chocolate mochi is thicker and has more of a raw taste than a sweet one. So, how do you make this yummy sounding sweet? Well, for the chocolate mochi, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • Cocoa powder (1 cup)
  • Sweet rice flour (2 cups)
  • Chocolate chips (optional)
  • Milk (1 1/2 cups)
  • Eggs (2 eggs)
  • Vanilla (2 tsp.)
  • Melted Butter (1/2 cup
  • Sugar (1 ¾ cups)
  • Baking powder (1 tbsp.)

So, when combining these ingredients you first add and stir together the cocoa powder and sweet rice flour; I usually add the 2 cups of mochi flour (sweet rice flour) and about a cup of cocoa powder (sometimes I’ll throw in a little more to give it a stronger chocolate taste) and beat in the eggs, melted butter, and milk until it’s smooth. Then add the sugar and vanilla last. Once you have stirred this for about 2 minutes, let it sit for 5 minutes and then stir again. During that time, preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Pour your batter into a greased pan, and cook the mochi in your oven for 50 minutes to an hour. After you take out the mochi, let it sit to cool, and enjoy!
