Hundreds of Muscogee County students are excited to take a field trip to experience the FIRST Robotics competition Friday, March 17, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Columbus State University Lumpkin Center, 4225 University Drive.

FIRST Robotics is a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) competition for K-12 students. Participants learn about engineering, business practices, and the importance of sharing the excitement of STEM with the community.

Thirty nine robots are featured and built by high school students from around Georgia that weigh approximately 150 pounds.Teachers and students from the Muscogee County School District can expect to learn how to incorporate robotics in their classrooms.

In addition, high school students spend time interacting with other robotics teams. The local high school FIRST Robotics team is FRC4188, which is known as the Columbus Space Program.

Students from Columbus High School and Hardaway High School have built a competitive robot, which ranks 3rd in Georgia. The team is focused on bringing robotics to the classroom for more schools in the district through summer workshops and mentoring for local teams.Elementary and middle school students experience LEGO based robots in action.

The Georgia FIRST District event is a free event that is open to the public from 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2017, and Saturday, March 18, 2017, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
