I recently interviewed Mrs.Jackson, the director of the fashion show, and asked her a few questions about being in charge of this year’s Pride Day Fashion Show at Hardaway High School. Mrs. Jackson is the Marketing/Fashion teacher, and she teaches freshman through senior classes.

How many students participate in the fashion show each year?

“About fifty to sixty students participants”

How many categories will be in this years show?

“Five in total, the categories are: urban, denim, seasons, decades, and formal”

How long would you say it takes to plan and perfect the show?

“The class members are actually supposed to plan, but it takes about five to six months so the kids can learn to walk and be stage ready.”

How long have you done Pride Day’s fashion show?

“This would be my second year.”

Describe how this week of practice has been.

“We start practice during the day and run through it.”

Why do you like being the director of the fashion show?

“Its been tradition at Hardaway for several years, and it is a requirement for the class I teach.”

Have you ever been in a fashion show yourself?

“Yes, actually, when I was younger.”

Is there a lot of stress and or pressure put on you since you are the director of the fashion show?

“Yes and no because the kids represent me, but its pretty much helping the kids learn.”

What motivation and advice do you have for the students who are nervous?

“When you’re on stage you won’t see the crowd, only hear them.”

I also asked senior participants Jabari Smith and Amari Bemiss how they feel it has been at practice this week, and they stated its been “stressful” and feel its unorganized, but that it will come together.

Amari Bemiss: “Go out and just do your thing.”

Jabari Smith: “Just keep going even if times get hard.”
