Have you met Mr. Fairchild? He teaches science in Mr. Wilson’s old room. Like most teachers here at Hardaway, there’s more than what meets the eye….

How long have you been teaching?

I have been teaching for almost 3 years.

How long have you been teaching high school?

This is my first year teaching high school, so nine and a half weeks.

Was teaching something you always wanted to do? If not, what was your original plan?

Teaching has always been an interest of mine, but it was not the original plan. In high school, I thought I would pursue a career in Math or Physics.

What brought you here to Hardaway? Where have you taught previously?

After earning my undergraduate and master’s degrees in Geology and working as a geologist, my family moved here to Columbus. Here, I decided to become a teacher. In that path, I had the good fortune to earn the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship and my teacher training through Columbus State University. Last year, CSU placed me here at Hardaway with Mr. Wilson. I enjoyed the culture at Hardaway and the school was my first choice as I applied for teaching positions last spring. Previously and still today, I teach night classes at CSU.

Are you intrigued yet? There’s more!!

Mr. Fairchild, at one time,  was a Fine Arts major with an emphasis in Ceramics. He was a taxi driver, semi-trailer decal installer, concessions manager, and get this…a scuba tour guide! How interesting?

Who would have known? We’re glad to have Mr. Fairchild with us, and wish the best for him and his first year here at Hardaway High School!
