It is a brand new year! Which means that there will be many new and exciting local events that you may want to check out! Many of these you can attend with your family and friends and it won’t cost anything. Whether you are looking for an outdoor activity or a more quiet, educational event, there are many to choose from!

The first event is called Girl Power. It will be held on January 26th at 1:00 p.m. The location is at the Mildred L. Terry Library. The event is for school-aged girls ,and they will be discussing self-esteem, leadership, body-image, and life choices.

The next event is Take The City. Take The City is a time for different churches and people to come together and worship God.  This will take place January 19th @ 2910 2nd Avenue. It will start around 12:30 and will end around 5:00 p.m.

Next, there are some MLK Weekend Volunteer Opportunities: Horses and Hard Work. The weekend is dedicated to erecting two tents and horse fencing along with clearing trails for biking, hiking, and horseback riding. They suggest your dress in layers, and bring work gloves and boots. Lunch is provided. The dates are January 19th and January 21st @ The Peach Pit (1345 River Road).  January 19 start time is 9:00 a.m. and on the 21st it will start at 5:00 pm.

The last event is Friday Night Jazz. There is no ticket required, but it is a first come- first serve when it comes to seating. You will enjoy your night listening to jazz. All ages are welcome. It is at The Loft (1032 Broadway), 7:00 pm- 9:00 pm, on January 19.
